The Product Launch Event
Apple unveiled its newest iPhones Wednesday: the iPhone XR, starting at $749; iPhone XS, starting at $999, and iPhone XS Max, starting at $1,099. The iPhone XS and XS Max will be available for pre-order on Friday. They will ship on Sept. 21. The iPhone XR will be available for preorder on Oct. 19 and will ship a week later.
What to Expect From iPhone XS
The iPhone XS Will ship with the new A12 Bionic processor for faster performance. It will have storage space up to 512 GB, improved OLED display for better color representation and a new gold color(if you wan someone to know you have the new iphone XS you'd want to go with the new gold color!). The battery will be given a boost extending its battery life by a whopping 30 minutes! (Well that exciting!).
The XS features an improved dual-camera system, with true-tone flash and new sensors with "bigger, deeper pixels" for better Portrait mode photos, Schiller said. The front-facing camera is twice as fast and works with a dot projector to create depth in photography and enable FaceID, the facial recognition system used to unlock the phone.
Apple is also rolling out its largest handset to date: the iPhone XS Max with a 6.5-inch OLED screen. It runs on the biggest battery Apple has ever put in a phone, Schiller said, and will last an hour and a half longer.
IT Comes With Dual Sim!
Both phones will offer dual SIM capability that allows users to have two phone numbers on the same phone — for work and home lines, or international travel, for example.
A third new model, the iPhone XR, comes in colorful aluminum finishes and features a 6.1-inch, edge-to-edge LCD display. Similar to the X and XS, it runs on faster processors and offers enhanced camera settings. The battery will last an hour and a half longer than the battery in the iPhone 8 Plus, Schiller said.
IT's IP68 Certified!
Apple’s new flagship handsets, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, pack momentous hardware upgrades to the microchips and silicon inside, but they also feature improved resistance to water.
Taking the stage at the September 12th Event, Apple’s Senior Vice President Phil Schiller revealed how the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max each feature a robust IP68 water resistance rating, which is good for 2 meters for up to 30 minutes.
This new water resistance rating is a welcomed departure from the IP67 water resistance rating by its predecessor, the lather iPhone X. That said, you needn’t worry if you drop your shiny new iPhone Xs or iPhone Xs Max in a pool or accidentally soak it with your drink while at dinner.
The iPhone XS Houses the new 7 Nanometer A12 CPU And It's a Beast!
Seriously, the engineering that have went into creating this chip is some mind boggling feat!
The A12 processors inside Apples new lineup are the first to use a new, more advanced chip manufacturing technology that miniaturizes circuitry, the company said at its product launch event.
The chips use a 7-nano-meter manufacturing process, marketing chief Phil Schiller at Appe's iPhone XS launch event. A nano-meter is a billionth of a meter, and smaller sizes mean more transistors can fit onto a single chip.
The chip, dubbed the A12 Bionic, has 6.9 billion transistors, Schiller said. Now that's just some insane numbers!
"This A12 Bionic is without question the smartest and most powerful chip ever in a smartphone," Schiller said.
Processors are the heart of a smartphone, and Apple, by controlling its own design, can stand out from the herd of Android phones. For example, it can fine-tune the number of processing engines, called cores. The A12 bionic has six CPU cores and can run either with two high-performance cores or four more power-efficient cores, Schiller said.
This is the reason that Apple's IOS is next to none when it comes to performance and reliability!
